Kurt did another half marathon in April. There were suppose to be a bunch of people running it from his work but it ended up being 3 of them. I sat this one out with it being such a hard winter to train since I was so sick for many months and then dealing with our house move. We went downtown to stay the night before. While there we walked around the new City Creek Center. It is very beautiful. We walked into a few stores including Tiffany’s, Disney, Steve Madden, H&M, etc. It was very crowded. Kurt got up really early the next day to get to the start line. I slept in and then walked over to the finish line. He had his best time yet of 2 hours 13 minutes. Good job Kurt!

Kurt is now another year older. He and I celebrated the Saturday before by eating at Market Street Grill. He picks this place every year for his birthday to get his fish craving filled. On his actual birthday he went to work. It is so hard to be a grown up and have a birthday. When he got home he got to open his gifts. We got him some binoculars. The boys all spent some time looking out our windows at different things. Then we went and got frozen yogurt at one of our favorite places. We are so thankful for Kurt in our family. He works so hard to provide for us. He is the best dad and husband that anyone could ask for.

We have started on getting our yard put together. We hired someone to come in and level our gigantic hill and make a rock retaining wall. Those rocks are expensive. It is coming together nicely and will be finished soon so we can move on to the next yard thing. We also had some concrete poured to extend our patio. When all the rocks are done then it will be sprinklers, trees, shrubs, plants, and grass. All that might have to wait until the fall because the money is going fast!

We have seen so many animals in our yard. All winter long we have seen deer. We even saw foot prints close to the house. We have all kinds of birds flying around. The other morning we had the windows opened and Jake came in and said that the birds were so smart because they knew and were singing the Mario song. So funny what kids come up with. He loves listening to the birds. One Sunday afternoon when my family was over there was a huge snake. He was hissing at us and not happy that we were around. My brother shooed him away with a stick to the other side of the fence. I even saw a gopher running across our yard. I hope they all go away when we get more put together so they don’t eat everything.

We did so many fun things for Easter this year. We decided that we wanted to have the neighborhood kids come over to a Fondue Peeps Party. We only have 3 other families in the neighborhood and one family couldn’t come so it ended up being just a few kids. Jake helped me make the invitations, deliver them, and plan the party. We planned 3 different activities/ games before doing the fondue. The kids dipped their Peeps in chocolate and then in sprinkles, Oreos, PB bites, or sour gummy worms. It was so fun and the boys really enjoyed playing with our new neighbors.

On Friday afternoon Josh had been complaining, crying, and screaming that his eye hurt. I thought he got something in it but would not see anything. When my mom got over to our house to do some activities she said maybe something got up under his eye lid and it wasn’t being washed out. I took him to InstaCare and they couldn’t see anything. They put some drops in his eye and put up a special light and it showed that his eye had a large cut on it. They called it a cornea abrasion. They sent us upstairs to the Primary’s unit to see a Pediatric Opthamalogist. She said it wasn’t as bad as some cases she had seen but it was very painful. Josh would be fine for a few minutes and then start screaming. She said as the eye moved the cut would catch and then hurt causing him to scream. She prescribed some drops to help seal the cut and prevent infection. They ran all kinds of tests to make sure it didn’t affect his vision. Most of the cut was on the white of the eye so he checked out ok. While they were doing all the tests I asked her to check for color blindness. He gets his colors so mixed up and thinks everything is blue, green, or red. As I suspected, he is color blind just like his grandpa. I am glad I know so I don’t stress out so much about him not knowing his colors. It was a long night of him sleeping and then screaming and holding him down three times a day for drops. But on Tuesday when he had a check up it was all healed and no cut was to be seen. Good thing eyes heal fast!

When we got all done with doctors it was finally time to dye Easter eggs. The boys love having this tradition and having grandma Camille come help us every year. We had mostly green and red dyed eggs since that is the favorite colors of Jake and Josh and lots of dye coloring on hands. Grandma then had the boys help with the sprinkles on the PB eggs.

Saturday we had our annual Ware Easter Egg Hunt. I am so happy for this tradition so that I don’t have to fight the crowds and worry about the boys getting eggs at hunts. They were so lucky and got lots of candy filled eggs and a few money filled eggs. It was so nice of a day that we stayed outside on grandma Carol’s patio to socialize and watch the boys play with my cousin’s kids. Grandma Camille even brought stuff to make these little guys that grow hair out of a nylon and some super sized frisbees.

Sunday morning we woke up to see what the Easter Bunny brought. The boys got lots of candy, a sling shot, new toothbrushes, and Lego’s. Legos took up the rest of the morning so I went back to sleep since I had few hours the previous nights with Josh’s eye injury. The afternoon was spent in church. I did feel really guilty when Kurt got in the car and he said in Elder’s Quorum as part of the lesson each person shared what they did that morning to celebrate the real reason for Easter. We had done nothing that morning because I was so tired. We did however during the week talk lots about the Savior’s Resurrection as we were reading 3rd Nephi and His visit to the America’s. And on Monday I did a whole FHE with the eggs and little things inside the eggs that represent the Savior’s crucifixion and resurrection. I wish Kurt would have remembered all those times. Next year I will have to do a better job.

I saw an idea on the internet to make Conference flowers. While Jake was off track he helped me color and glue the flowers on card stock. He said that we needed grass for the flowers so he and Josh cut up some grass too. For FHE the week before Conference we talked about listening to the prophet and apostles. We went over each person and and taped the flowers to the wall to help us remember during the week. As each person talked at Conference we wrote on the flower what they spoke about. As someone came to the pulpit to talk I had to tell Jake whether this person was on a flower or not. He did good with some of the talks in listening and figuring out what to write and on others we had to help him. I think this was the most that he had ever listened. I made each one of them a Conference binder too with activities to keep the quiet. Now, if I could only get Josh to stop wrestling and listen next time….

I saw this idea on Pinterest to make a puppet stage. We have lots of hand puppets and I thought this would be so fun for the boys to do on an early out school day. We took a shower curtain that I got on clearance and cut it in half. Then we cut out a large rectangle to put the puppets through. Using the holes at the top we threaded a tension rod and then put it up in the doorway. The boys were so excited and spent all afternoon and evening making up new puppet show for me to watch. Towards the end the puppets just started flying through the stage hole with lots of laughs and funny sounds after each throw. I am so glad that my boys have a fun timme together and can be creative.

Jake had to make a new trap this year because his previous traps have failed. He got the idea all on his own. Josh helped glue on the pom poms for the rainbow. Jake was convinced that this trap was going to work. But, that tricky leprechaun got away. The leprechaun did lead us on a treasure hunt through the house. As we went along the treasure hunt he left us some green goodies of mint oreos, Sprite, Pringles in a green can, and chocolate gold coins. He colored our breakfast milk green too. We will have to wait another year to get our real pot of gold.

He knew most of his team from the neighborhood and school. He was so excited to wear his sweat arm bands that uncle Jeff gave him for Christmas. The jerseys this year were his favorite color, green. He would wear his shirt every Saturday all day long with his new green shorts. Basketball is one of the few sports that he still wants to participate in. Great season Jake!

We have finally moved in and gotten settled into our house. It has been so fun figuring out where things go and getting everything organized. I couldn’t stand the mess for very long so I worked hard to get things put away and cleaned up. I am going to walk through the house room by room.

Living Room- This is where we put our piano, some chairs and our bookcase with nice things like sculptures, church books, and family vacation pictures.

Office- We bought a new table for our computer and printer so they both will fit together. We also got a tray organizer for mail and other papers that need to be filed. And I put together a organizer for office supplies. We had wood floors put into this area and still need to get a nice rolling office chair.

Family Room- We had built in cabinets to hide all of our entertainment machines and cords. The other side is used for blankets and scrapbooks. Kurt had the TV mounted on the wall above the fireplace. We love the fireplace. It heats up the room really fast and is so fun to use when watching movies together. I orders the Family Is… vinyl and we had pictures taken to put on the wall with the words. I love how it turned out.

Dining- Our table is too small for this area. Eventually we will have to get a bigger one. There is a bench built all the way around the outside too. I still want to get cushions for this. There is a door that goes out to our covered patio.

Kitchen- I love how the kitchen turned out. There was a little bit of a problem with the backsplash and they were installing it as we were trying to move in. But I think everything looks so nice. We picked off white cabinets with a brown glaze. It looks so pretty in person. We haven’t even filled them all yet. All my cabinets have the roll out shelves and one cabinet holds the garbage and recycling. It has nice big drawers and we added 4 more big pot and pan drawers. One cabinet has glass to display our china. We got all new appliances too. It came with double ovens and a gas range. Our fridge has the french doors with the freezer on the bottom. The boys favorite feature is the water and ice dispensers.

Pantry- The pantry is huge. I have so much room to put everything. I put some lazy susans in the corners and some big bins on the floor to hold big things. I hung up my spice racks and some hooks for the mop and broom. Behind the door are some hanging organizers for crayons, markers, and colored pencils.

Mudroom- This was something that we really wanted in the house. Our builder put in a bench and stacks. Each person has their own hook to hang things on and cubby.

Powder Bath- I wanted a bathroom by the backdoor so that when the boys are outside playing they don’t have to walk through the whole house to use it.

Butler’s Pantry- We have a small walkway between our dining and office that was intended to be a formal dining in the office. We bought some cabinets and made it into game/puzzle area. I bought all the decorative things new to add to the space.

Master Bedroom- This room is huge. We bought some bedroom furniture (we have never had any) with Christmas money. I have one more wall in here that I need to figure out what to do.

Master Bedroom- I also love our master bathroom a lot. We have so much room to get ready in the morning. I love the huge tub and the big shower with a nice bench in it. We have two sink so each of us has one to use in the mornings.

Master Closet- Again it is huge. We actually are able to get all our clothes in here.

Laundry room- I have an actual room to do laundry. We got the front loading washer and dryer set. I have space to put out everyone’s baskets so I can fold everything then they have to put it away themselves.

Jake’s room- Jake picked Angry birds for his theme. We did have to buy a new bed because his cracked in the move. So his room is full of mismatched furniture.

Josh’s room- Josh chose to stay with the Cars theme. Both boys loved helping put their stuff on the walls. They each have a large closet to fill up.

Extra room- Not much in here yet. I put my doll collection and thimble collection in here and a few pictures. Eventually we will do something in here.

Boys bathroom- I love the hooks we got for in here.

Downstairs- We have so much storage. We made a nice play area for the boys with some rugs. Then I have a huge cold storage where all our food storage and emergency supplies are. In fact I wanted to get my kitchen unpacked first and then my food/ emergency storage unpacked second.

Garage- We have a three car garage. Both cars fit easily into it without bumping each other when opening doors and we have plenty of space for all our recreational things and yard supplies. Kurt still has to put together his garage shelf and get his tools organized.

Outside- They put in our front and side yards. On the south side we decided to pour a RV pad. Right now it has the boys basketball stand on it. Jake will have plenty of room to play and bounce the ball instead of having to shoot it from the grass. We are on a half acre so in the picture our yard goes clear down to the end of the fence and then over to the pink post. We have a lot of work to do this spring and have no ideas. We also put in a covered patio that I know will get used lots. No one will ever build behind us so we have a really nice view and lots of area to explore.
We are so excited to be in our home! We would love to show anyone an in person tour that wants to come see it.

Both our boys made it to midnight this year! I was surprised that Josh made it. I almost didn’t since we had the stomach flu earlier in the week and I was coming down with a cold/cough. We had fun as a family staying up, playing games, watching movies, and eating treats. On New Year’s Day we went to church in our new ward. Jake got to go to Senior Primary. He was excited to go to class first. This will be a fun year for him and he and the other kids in his class turn 8 and are baptized. Josh started out in Sunbeams. He was not happy at first and was crying with several of the other kids. But after about 10 minutes he calmed down. When he got out he said he had fun and he was not going to cry the next week (and he didn’t). Our ward is huge and there were several talks about it splitting soon. We did get to meet the people that live next door to us. It will be nice when things settle down and lots of people move into our neighborhood to meet. Since the ward is so big we are going to focus on those that live close to us.

We had a great Christmas season. With Jake being off track we took advantage of some nights and did some fun things. We made gingerbread houses, went to Temple Square to see the lights, went to Christmas Street, went to Festival of the Trees, made lots of cookies and hot chocolate, Kurt played a Christmas duet of Silent Night in church and at a stake fireside, and most importantly we enjoyed spending time with family.

Christmas Eve my family got together and we had a visit from Santa. Jake was so funny and just talked Santa’s ears off. Josh actually went and sat on his lap. Everyone was so excited to see him. Luckily we didn’t have any lasts minute gift changes. With cousins being in town we did the Nativity Play. It was not the most reverent that we have had but the kids loved acting out their parts. Jake was Joseph and Josh was a wise man. Christmas morning we woke up to see what Santa brought us. Jake got Epic Mickey and a alarm clock radio with iPod dock. Josh got the Bat Cave and a punching bag. They loved seeing what their cousins got from Santa too and everyone played with all the gifts. After church we were able to open our other gifts. We gave the boys some new things for their rooms, books, Legos, and dart guns. kurt got a new sound system for our new house. And Kurt surprised me with an iPad. We were spoiled by all the nice things that were given to us by family this year. I have posted lots of pictures on our flickr page.

For Thanksgiving my whole family headed down to California to have lots of fun. We spent 1 day at LegoLand, 3 days at Disneyland and California Adventure, and 1 day driving the coast and at the beach.

LegoLand was crowded. We waited in ride lines for a long time. We loved seeing all the lego built into people, buildings, animals, and lots of other things. They have a whole Star Wars display that has a scene from each of the 6 movies. Jake was in heaven looking at all the things and pointing out the little details. Jake’s favorite ride was the cars that he and his cousin Sydney got the drive. LegoLand was the coldest day of our week in California. One neat things that they had was while you were waiting in line some of the rides had a lego play area for the kids to pass the time. As a souvenier the boys picked out some mugs with Lego guys on it and Josh got a Cars lego set and Jake got some people to add to his Star Wars and Harry Potter lego bins.

The next day we started our three day stay at Disneyland Resort. We loved being there and seeing all the Christmas things on Main Street. There is a huge tree when you first walk in and the castle has tons of lights on it. It looks spectacular at night. We started early in the morning with our Magic Morning Entrance and got all of Fantasyland done. My favorite ride was It’s A Small World. They change it for Christmas and add all kinds of Christmas decor and scenes. The building has tons of Christmas lights on at night and looks so fun. We spent the rest of the day doing various rides around the park. Josh was exactly 40 inches and got to go on everything but Indiana Jones and California Screamin. And he was braver than Jake on most of the rides and loved all of them. The firework show at night was done to Christmas music and was so fun to watch.

On day 2 we spent the first two hours at Disneyland and then headed over to California Adventure for the rest of the day and evening. Jake got brave and tried Tower of Terror again. He said the ride wasn’t too bad when it dropped but he doesn’t like the beginning when the people disappear. Josh said it wasn’t his favorite. We even made Jake go on the “big roller coaster”. He did not like going upside down. At night we watched the new World of Color show. It is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I loved the whole thing. The boys were so excited to name all the movies and characters that were show on the water screen.

Day 3 was to just hit everything that we hadn’t done yet. Jake’s favorite ride was Star Tours and Josh’s was Buzz Lightyear. Since this day was Thanksgiving we booked our meal to be at Goofy’s Kitchen. Every minute of dining and seeing the characters is worth the price. We had Goofy, Pluto, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Captain Hook, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Cinderella, and the Fairy Godmother visit our table. The kids were so excited to meet all the characters that it was a little hard to get them to eat. They did have traditional Thanksgiving food that the adults ate. But the kids stuck to hot dogs, peanut butter and jelly pizza, spaghetti and lots of desserts. It was the best Thanksgiving meal because we didn’t have to prepare or clean up anything. After dinner Kurt had to fly home so he could work the busy weekend. He was lucky that his work let him come since this time of the year is so busy and lots of work for him. We went back to Disneyland and walked through ToonTown. It is fun for the kids to see where all the characters live. They get a kick in sitting in their chairs and seeing beds. When my dad and brother got back from dropping Kurt off we did some shopping and watched the firework show again. By the end of day 3 (4 if you count LegoLand) our feet were so tired. Jake was so good to not complain and to walk and stand in all the lines. Josh was so good to sit in the stroller. We had no lost kids this time. It was so fun to be there and see all the Christmas things that Disney does.

Our last day in California we drove to the coast and walked around Newport Beach. We drove up to Huntington Beach too. Then we dropped my sister and her family off at the airport. Then we drove up to Malibu Beach. My dad loves to drive along the coast. It is so fun to drive through all the beach cities. We saw surfers out in the water but we did not go in the water.

It was a fun way to spend the week of Thanksgiving with all my family. We have lots of pictures on our flickr account. To see them click on one of the pictures at the right and then you can see the whole trip.

This year for Halloween Jake was Harry Potter and Josh was Thomas the Train. We had a few fun events to attend where the boys got to dress up. Jake’s school had their Carnival. It turned out to be a great success. It is always a long day for me helping out but the kids love it. Kurt had an orchestra performance. The music they played was from video games. Jake hearing some familiar music. Jake also had his class party that I got to go help with. They made haunted houses. There was enough materials for Josh to make one too. We went trick-or- treating in our old neighborhood. It was fun for me this year because since I didn’t have a house to hand out candy I got to go with the boys. They got lots of candy that was gone within a few days. There is video on YouTube of Kurt playing at his performance and Jake performing Thriller that he learned at school.

I have been taking pictures to document the process and for anyone that is interested in seeing them. They are on our blog. We have and hole and the footings are done. We have picked out everything except for paint colors and granite. It was a long day to get everything picked out. We agreed on everything except the backsplash. The only place we had to go to a second time was the tile to look at other backsplash options and pick one that we both liked. I think it helped that we have been making lists and looking at lots of houses for two years so we knew what we wanted. It is going to go fast now that things are started.

There were some goats there that they boys wanted to pet too.
Then we went to Herriman’s Pumpkin Festival. It was the most busy it has ever been since we started going 5 years ago. It is the first time we had to wait in long lines to play the games. The highlights were getting to wear our costumes, the bouncy slides, and the train ride. It still is fun to go to.

Jake really liked the new owl exhibit and his favorite was the Snowy Owl because it is in Harry Potter.

A few months ago we started thinking about maybe moving in the next year or two. We thought that we needed a bigger backyard for the boys to run around it as they got older. We started casually looking a some houses and neighborhoods. Pretty soon we found a builder that we really liked with a floor plan that had everything we were looking for. We then drove into the neighborhood that they were building in and really liked the lots. After that things just seemed to happen to make our decision so easy. Kurt was paid some money from a former job that was the exact amount as the lot deposit. We put our house up for sale thinking that maybe in a few months it would sell and then we would see if our lot was still available for us. Our house had two offers within three days of being up for sale. So we took the full price offer. We passed our inspection with no changes needing to be made and our appraisal came in right at our selling price. We feel like all of this is going so smoothly and it is what the next step in our lives should be.
We will be out of our house by the 24th of September. I have been so busy getting things boxed up to put in storage.
Our new house will start being by the end of September and we should be in just before Christmas. We are so excited to build a house again. It will be so fun to pick out everything new. I am not looking forward to more yard work on our half acre. But the boys are going to have a great time growing up in this house and being able to have plenty of room to play outside. This will be our house for a long time unless something major happens in our lives.

We took a fast 2 day trip down to Lake Powell to get one more trip on the boat. We drove down Thursday after school and work and spent the night sleeping in the car and boat. Both Friday and Saturday were spent out on the water. Friday night we stayed in a hotel in Page since my dad will no longer camp without a houseboat. And then we drove back Saturday night. Lake Powell brings back so many memories growing up. It is one of my favorite places. We did lots of swimming, skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. I cliff jumped with my brother. And we watched my brother parasail. We were so exhausted by the end of the trip and had a great time!

My dad needed to go down to Las Vegas and asked that we come along. Since it is Jake’s last week out of school it was easy to say yes. The boys swam for 2 1/2 days. They would get up and be in the pool by 9 and swim until 1 or 2 when I made them take a break and then get back in after dinner and swim for a few more hours. Jake got really comfortable swimming without his life jacket. He even got good at diving and then swimming to the other side without touching the bottom. Josh got where he would let go of me and float for a minute with his life jacket. We didn’t do much else so I am glad the boys had a great time swimming. Both my boys love the water!

Josh turned 3! We celebrated his birthday the day before and it was an all day celebration. We went in the morning to see Cars 2 with grandma and grandpa. Jake loved it and Josh got a little wiggly in the middle. Overall everyone enjoyed it. Then grandpa took us all out to Red Robin for lunch. After lunch we came back to our house for a little bit to wait for everyone else to come over. Jake enjoyed jumping on the tramp with Uncle Jeff and the birthday boy took a little nap. Josh loved opening presents. We gave him a sand and water table. He got some Cars Legos, cars, and money. He already spent some of his birthday money on the tramp that we got in May. For his cake he wanted a Choo choo. I had already done this cake for Jake before so it was easy. Josh wanted his all red. He helped put the decorations on and was so excited to eat. We had to put it up high because he kept trying to pick at it. He was tired by the end of the day. We are so lucky to have Josh in our family. He has turned into a great brother and I love watching my two boys play together. Josh has some stubbornness in him and knows what he wants. We are able to understand what he is saying more and more each day. He is so full of energy all day long. He has stopped taking naps on most days. He is a good healthy eater and wants carrots and celery to snack on. We love you Josh!

Our family took a two week vacation to Oregon this summer. We spent the first week at a beach house with all of Kurt’s family. Most of the week was spent at the beach playing in the sand and water. We bought toys, horseshoes,a kite, and a rocket launcher. The water was cold but that didn’t bother Jake at all. He got his whole body in it. Josh went to put his feet in it on the first day and decided it was too cold for him and just stuck to playing in the sand. One afternoon we went to some tidal pools that were close by. Josh ended up falling asleep on the drive over so I stayed in the car with him. It was a good thing that I stayed because it started pouring. Kurt and Jake came back soaked. They said there wasn’t much to the tide pools but Jake enjoyed the visitor center. He got animal track stamps on a paper for different animals. We also went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium one day. The boys loved seeing all the different animals and got to get shirts of their favorite animals. Kurt and I ran on the beach two morning which was very fun. One morning we saw a bunch of harbor seals just on the edge of the water. They were so close to us. On the way back to Portland, we stopped by Tillamook to tour the cheese factory and get ice cream. Jake and Josh loved getting to know some of their cousins on the Didenhover side and had a great time.

The second week of our vacation was spent in Portland at my sister’s house. Kurt was there with us through the 4th of July weekend and then he flew home. My mom flew out to spend time with everyone too. For the 4th we did a nature trail hike, had a picnic at the park, and then did lots of fireworks. After Kurt left we went to three different splash parks, the farmer’s market, played at several parks, saw Kung Fu Panda 2, and did lots of playing with cousins. We were there to celebrate my nephew’s birthday at a pizza place too. Since Kurt flew home I had to drive. It was a long ride home. We got home late and everyone was exhausted.
Thanks everyone for the fun vacations!

He is so good with our boys. If he is home then all they want to do is interact with him and play. Jake made a cute coupon shirt at school that he was very excited to give to Kurt. Then we got him some golf clubs so that he and Jake could go golf together. In the morning he had meetings so we didn’t get to do dinner for him but hopefully we made it up to him by letting him rest after church since he didn’t have any appointments to attend to. We love you!

Jake and his friend that lives by us have been wanting to do a lemonade stand for a couple of weeks. So we put one together to do on a Friday when school got out early. We printed tickets to take around to all the kids in the neighborhood that could bring back to get some lemonade with. Then we got our table, chairs and goodies ready. I printed out some cute signs for it. We had a good turn out. They boys were so cute serving everyone and advertising for people to come. They were a little worried about making money and us moms didn’t want to charge people so we put out a tips optional bowl. They made $5 to split between the two of them. It was a really fun afternoon.

Jake has wanted a trampoline for a while now. When he got some money for his birthday he was convinced that we were going to get one. We had to talk Kurt into it for the next three weeks. He finally gave in and we went and got one. The boys love being outside jumping on it and already learning all kinds of fun tricks to do. I think it is wonderful because it is good exercise and gets some energy out of them.
